FINAL BLOG FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

I have learned so many things these past five weeks that my head is spinning. I am truly amazed by the amount of information that is floating out there. I am grateful to Rita for providing me with a net to capture some of it.

I have created a glog to help me introduce myself as well as my class content to my students this fall. It was really fun to embed video and music into my introductory presentation.

I also really like slide share. I have found many power points and videos that relate to my course content. Why reivnent the wheel? (Rita's words). I am currently building a new course presentation incorporating some of the things that I have found on slide share.

I am also going to implement a blog site where I can have my students comment on lecture sections, or possibly give feedback on a reading or website assignment.
I liked the way Carlos used his blogsite incorporating pictures, websites, and videos for his class to use.

After taking this class I feel confident enough to implemenet some much needed technology into my classes----THANK YOU RITA!!!

MY problems with TWITTER

Well I set up my twitter account on Thursday July 22nd. I posted my first tweet on that same day. I also said I was interested in hooking up with other educators that teach in health occupations. Today is Saturday July 24th and I have not received any response to my tweet from Thursday.
When I looked for people in health occupations I was hooked up with groups that deal in tatoo design. I am not sure how that happened, since we are essentially in very different fields.
I am sure that if I would connect with the group of people I am looking for, it would be a very worthwhile experience for me to learn from them. If I play around more and search different options I hope to contact educators familiar with my subject area. I truly believe that we could learn alot from each other.
Thanks to Rita for opening this door of opportunity. Now it is just a matter of sorting out all the options and conecting with the right group of tweeters.
I will keep trying until I get it right, it is truly a humbling experience.

Managing all this new information!!!

After researching sites such as glogster, animoto, stupeflix, and google docs, I have found many new and exciting ways to present information to my students. It will take time and practice to become familiar with the sites and develop meaningful additions to my lecture series. I am sure the students will find the information more fun and interesting when it is incorporated within these fabulous media sources. I am excited to assimilate at least a few into the fall semester!

The Wonder of Google

After looking at some of the many applications of google, I am totally in awe!! I only used google as a search engine---I had no idea that there was so much more that one could do with google!!! I am intrigued with google voice. I think it is great that an account can be set up with a google number that does not reveal a personal cell, home, or office number. I like the idea that one can determine whether the phone rings or a voice mail is generated. I definately will be setting up this FREE google voice account.
Another application that I find interesting is how to publish a quiz using google docs. I need to investigate it further, but it sounds like something that could be incorporated in a blackboard function.
I also spent some time looking at the free video lectures offered by google. I think there are many opportunities to incorporate this information into the lecture component of my class.

I am grateful to Rita for sharing all this information with me.

Confusion concerning teaching technology

I am excited to learn how to incorporate technology that will enhance my lecture classes.
I have been searching some of the sites listed under Free Technology for Teachers and am having some trouble understanding exactly how to access the information that I am looking for.
For example, I looked at Snag Films, where you can access 1350 films. I was looking for films that would integrate the phlebotomy procedure as well as explain the tube types used for phlebotomy into a documentary film. I could not find one film that matched my search criteria.
I also searched Ehow.com to look for ways to explain the phlebotomy procedure to beginning students, again I came up empty.
Lastly, I looked into Video Creation Resources to learn of ways to create a video related to the phlebotomy procedure, once again no luck!!
I know that to strike out three times is a bad reflection on my technological abilities!!!
I feel that I am searching too broad an area.
Anyone out there that has used these sites???? Any assistance you can offer to me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance for your help.
